Rina's Pizzeria and Cafe
We've ordered from Rina's several times and thought it was finally time to write up a review on it. Overall our impressions are positive. The food was consistently delicious and everything we've ordered has been great.
We've ordered two different pizza's from Rina's. The first, called the “Pizza al Salame Piccante” or, pepperoni pizza, is flat out one of the best pizza's you can order for delivery in Downtown Boston. Everything about this pizza is well constructed. On your first bite you notice the stretchy, molten cheese, the crisp of the pepperoni, and nice chew of the dough. You get a nice subtle yet present wood fire char taste. This is a pizza we order again and again and have yet to get tired of it.
The other pizza we ordered is the “Salsiccia e Broccoli Rabe” which is composed of sausage, broccoli rabe, roasted garlic, and mozzarella cheese. The above statements about the cheese and dough still apply here, but you get a bit dryer pizza with strong but composed flavors of garlic, sausage, and broccoli rabe working together. If the pepperoni pizza is a punk band, this pizza is a mellow jazz ensemble, chill, but still worthy of your attention.
Both sandwiches were delicious, but not what we'd call equal. The chicken parmesan stands out as the clear winner when pitted against the italian. It's a juicy and tender fried chicken breast topped with mozzarella and a tangy red sauce. Both sandwiches shared the same bread which was soft with a little bit of crisp.
The italian sandwhich, or what they call “The North End Boss” was a good sandwich for sure, but paled compared to some of the other options we had. If you're really into italian subs, this might be for you but what we think the next offering from Rina's is a much better option.
Rina's only offers one calzone, the “Calzone italiano”. As you may have guessed this is a calzone filled with what you might find in an italian sub. It's mortadella, salami, capicola topped with mozzarella and wrapped in a blanket of dough that's soft and just the right thickness. While a red sauce was provided to dip bites of the calzone in, we found that it easily stands on its own without it. It's like an italian sub taken to the next level.
Rina's has been consistently delicious so it has become one of our go-tos when it comes to pizza. It might not have the big name appeal of other local shops (yet) but we think it's a gem that will eventually get the attention it deserves. Definitely consider ordering here.
